40 + Best Thanksgiving Side Dishes

40 Best Thanksgiving Side Dishes (gluten free) | www.savorylotus.com

If you ask me, Turkey is not the real star of the show on Thanksgiving.  It’s all about the sides.  And here’s 40 plus delicious and easy Thanksgiving sides to impress your guests with at your upcoming feast.

Let’s talk gratitude for a minute.

There’s a lot of commercial hype that happens around the holiday season, for sure. But that’s not what we focus on in our household. The holidays are a time for us to slow down and spend real quality time together. It’s a time when we get to give thanks and reflect on how lucky we are to have each other. And yes, to share lots of tasty food together.

Does your family have traditions around sharing food together?  For me, sitting down with my family to share a meal is my favorite part of the day.  And one tradition we have at dinner time is for everyone to go around and say what they are grateful for. Just a few simple words about anything we may feel gratitude for.  This little tradition means a lot to me because I have learned that when I am grateful, it is hard to feel sad or angry or distressed.

I am not a particularly religious person, but I do consider myself to be a spiritual one.  And this small gesture to acknowledge what I’m grateful for and to share that with my family has become an integral part of our meal times. It warms my heart to hear what my kids have to say and to know that I am cultivating a sense of gratitude in them instead of the commercialized sense of wanting that I often see.  Abundance is a state of mind.  And I prefer to live with an abundance mindset versus a mindset of scarcity.

“Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.”

― Eckhart Tolle

OK… now lets’s get to those Thanksgiving side dishes.  Cuz we all know there’s more to Thanksgiving than the turkey.  You’ll find it all here:  roasted carrots, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, stuffing, salads, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, and SO MUCH MORE.  All real food ingredients.  All gluten free.  Mostly paleo.

I am grateful for you all.  Without you, Savory Lotus would not exist.  Happy Holidays, beautiful people.

xo,

Katja

💪 according to data from the Centers for Diseas 💪 according to data from the Centers for Disease Control, only about 23 percent of all U.S. adults get the recommended amount of exercise per week • that is at least 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise each week, in addition to muscle-strengthening activities at least twice a week

💪 lack of movement and sedentary lifestyles are contributing to the rise in chronic illnesses and premature aging • lack of exercise leads to inflammation, weight gain, increased insulin resistance, and muscle loss • this opens the door for chronic illnesses like heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, type 2 diabetes, cancer, and dementia

💪 benefits of regular exercise:

* improved cardiovascular health
* decreases blood pressure
* stress reduction
* decreases body mass index
* improved brain health
* improved mood
* decreases anxiety and depression
* improved blood sugar balance
* increased energy

💪 regular exercise, combined with a nutrient-rich real food diet, is one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself • and will drastically reduce your risk for the standard american diseases

•

💧 water triggers the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the body’s ‘rest and digest’ response • your heart rate and blood pressure lowers, your digestion is stimulated and your body is able to relax

•

💧 being around water gives your brain and your senses a rest from overstimulation.

•

💧 when you’re immersed in water, your body sends out signals to change the balance of catecholamines (the hormones responsible for our ‘fight-or-flight’ response) to a level that’s similar to the balance found when you’re meditating or relaxing • so when you’re swimming, you’re basically meditating underwater

•

💧 why do so many of us LOVE the ocean? • when a wave breaks, the turbulence it creates is said to alter the physical structure of the water and air • water and air molecules are broken apart, releasing negative ions into the atmosphere • some research suggests that these ions can even increase the circulation of oxygen in our bodies and boost our mood
