Trying to plan your Thanksgiving dinner? No worries. I’ve got you covered with over 50 healthy Thanksgiving recipes to make your mouth water.
Thanksgiving was never my favorite holiday. To be honest, it didn’t feel genuine to be celebrating a historical event that caused irreparable damage to the indigenous people of this country. I tend to be a truth teller and have always sought out a more accurate and balanced version of how things really went down.
But over the years as I have grown and my family has grown, Thanksgiving has taken on a new meaning for me. Giving thanks and living in gratitude has become a way of life and a powerful tool for living a more joyful life. I have come to realize that it is extremely healing and important to gather with friends and family to give thanks for all the abundance in our lives.
One thing that I have learned is that it is very difficult to be grateful and unhappy at the same time. And spending time with small children has taught me that JOY is our natural state of being. As an adult, I am continually striving to return to that precious place of joy. Having a daily gratitude practice has been a powerful tool in creating more joy on the daily for myself and for my family.
What does that look like in our family? Super simple. Every time that we sit together to eat a meal, we go around the table and each person says what he or she is grateful for today. This simple act is powerful. It keeps us rooted in gratitude and reminds us to celebrate each day the good things in life.
So here’s to a wonderful Day of Thanks for us all. May we be reminded of all the abundance we have in our lives and may we senf out prayers of healing and health to all who are lacking. My personal prayer this year goes out to the brave folks out at Standing Rock who are defending our lands against the proposed oil pipeline. This movement is dear to my heart because I feel strongly about protecting our natural water sources. Without clean water, we have no life. In support of the courageous people at Standing Rock, my amazing and talented friend has created an art piece called “North Dakota Prayer” with all profits going to support the Standing Rock Tribe. Please take a moment to check out her art and if inspired, please purchase and support. Thank you so much!
